Dragon Boat Festival Celebrations and Holiday Arrangements in 2025

The Dragon Boat Festival ,also known as the DUANWU Festival, is a traditional Chinese festival with over 2,000 years of history.,In 2025, it falls on May 31st (Chinese lunar calendar).
This festival remembers Qu Yuan, a patriotic poet from the Warring States period. When his country faced corruption and decline, Qu Yuan drowned in the Miluo River. Local people rushed to search for his body, beat drums to scare fish, and threw rice dumplings into the river, thinking the fish would eat them instead of Qu Yuan’s body. These actions gradually developed into the traditions we have today.
One of the most exciting parts of the Dragon Boat Festival is the dragon boat races.Held in China and places with large Chinese communities, long dragon boats decorated with dragon heads and tails race on the water. Paddlers move together to drumbeats, showing teamwork. Cheering spectators add to the excitement.
Eating zongzi is another key tradition. Sticky rice, often with fillings like red bean paste or pork, is wrapped in bamboo leaves. Making zongzi is a family activity passed down through generations.

People also hang calamus and mugworton doors to keep bad luck away, have children wear herb - filled sachets for good luck, and drink realgar wine to repel snakes.
